HEAD COACH BILL O’BRIEN
How did G Jeff Allen do this week and how do you feel about his chances of playing on Sunday?
“He had a good week and yeah, he’ll be able to play on Sunday.”
How about C Greg Mancz?
“I think it’s touch-and-go with Greg.”
How have you seen G Jeff Allen grow and develop and settle in here?
“I think he’s had to deal with injuries. He hurt his ankle last year, hurt it again this year. Sometimes that’s out of your control. When it’s come to his ability to play, he’s a tough guy. He’s played well for us, he’s played hurt, and then obviously, like I said, he’s been hobbled with an ankle injury at times over the last couple of years. I think when he’s healthy, he’s played real well. He started off the season here, training camp, and in the first game – wasn’t great for anybody, coaches and players alike. As he’s gotten back to full health here, he’s playing at a pretty good level. That’s what he needs to do.”
Where is RB D’Onta Foreman as a running back in the aspects of the position outside of running the football?
“He’s a smart kid. He picks up things really well. We use him in the passing game. He’s not just a runner, he’s able to understand how to run routes, he’s got good hands, good instincts. Protections are always probably the last thing to come with rookie running backs, but I think he’s done a pretty good job of picking it all up. I see him as a three-down back. I think he’s a three-down back.”
You guys have tried to improve the offensive line, and it still struggles at times. Is that ever frustrating for you?
“No. I control what I control, which is coaching and what you see on the field. I really enjoy coaching these players. I really enjoy our guys up front. They are tough, they show up to work every day. You look at a guy like Chris Clark, (who has) played a lot of football in this league. He’s got great leadership qualities. We talked about Jeff Allen. Then you got a young guy like Nick Martin, who’s played, I think, very well. Then you have undrafted guys that have played a lot of football for us and played hard in (Greg) Mancz and Kendall Lamm. And then you have two young guys, (Julién) Davenport and (Kyle) Fuller, who we think are going to be real good. So, look, I really enjoy coaching those guys and I look forward to, every day in the offensive meeting, seeing them and coaching them and getting them ready for the game.”
