CONFERENCE CALL WITH BENGALS HEAD COACH MARVIN LEWIS
What are your thoughts when you watch Texans DE Jadeveon Clowney on tape?
“I think he’s really playing well. I talked to Rick Smith earlier in the year, sent him a message. He’s very natural back doing what he was used to doing in college. He’s doing a great job.”
How tough is it to prepare for Texans QB Tom Savage when there’s not a lot of film on him?
“Well, you’re going to defend the offense first. But like you said, you don’t have a lot of experience with him, seeing him making throws and watching him in the pocket and so forth that way. We’re just going to have to be really sound in what we do and do a good job of executing the defense.”
What makes the Texans defense so good despite all the injuries they’re dealing with?
“Well, they’ve done a good job. Their coaches have really put them in great position and guys are responding and playing and guys are making plays. They’re limiting exposure and plays down the field and so forth that way, which makes a big difference.”
Is it tough to get your guys going this week after being eliminated from the playoffs?
“They’ll be ready to go.”
Does the chance to knock your opponent out of the playoffs provide any sort of motivation?
“The biggest motivation is winning, getting our team to win. They put a lot of time and effort and energy into preparation each week, and that’s the most important thing come Sunday. This is their profession and what should drive them.”
CONFERENCE CALL WITH BENGALS QB ANDY DALTON
What are your thoughts on coming back home to Houston to play an NFL game?
“It’s going to be fun to be back in Houston. I’ll get to see a lot of family, especially with it being Christmas Eve. I’ll get to see a lot of my family and stuff, so it’ll be fun to be back down there.”
What kind of ticket demands do you have for this game?
“Yeah, I’ll have my immediate family there. And then maybe a couple friends, but with it being Christmas Eve, I think that some of them won’t be able to make it. But yeah, I’ll still have a good amount of people there.”
What’s your mentality for this game going against a good Texans defense?
“For us, we’re going to do whatever we can to win these last two. So we’re preparing the same way we always do. We have to come out and play our best. We’re playing a really good defense and a good team in the Texans that has a lot to play for right now. We know the task that we have in front of us so we have to come out and play our best.”
What have you seen from Texans DE Jadeveon Clowney this year?
“He’s been playing well. I feel like this is the best football that he’s played. He does a great job rushing the passer, getting around the quarterback. So, for me, got to be on time with the ball, get the ball out of my hands quick and get it to our guys.”
Do you know Texans QB Tom Savage at all?
“I do not.”
When you look back on some of the things you learned at Katy High School, how much of that still applies to today and the success you’re having?
“I think Katy really does a great job of building the foundation of football for the guys and it carries over into life, too. I just think the mentality of hard work – I feel like there’s not a school out there that works as hard as what Katy does and the coaches are really demanding of it. I think that’s the biggest thing that I can take away from my time at Katy.”
